Facts ARE stubborn things

That is the title to a whitehouse.gov posting by Macon Phillips (Former Director of Digital Strategy) on August 7, 2009. It is a posting I’m sure Obama wishes he could erase.

You can read it for yourself here.

The post basically claims that those on the right will do or say anything to smear the president and his health care claims. Phillips goes on to say, “For the record, the President has consistently said that if you like your insurance plan, your doctor, or both, you will be able to keep them.” The whole point of the post is to assure voters that nothing will change with their own health care plan if they like it.

Here is how the post begins…
Opponents of health insurance reform may find the truth a little inconvenient, but as our second president famously said, "facts are stubborn things."

Scary chain emails and videos are starting to percolate on the internet, breathlessly claiming, for example, to "uncover" the truth about the President’s health insurance reform positions.

Watch the video now.

You have to laugh or it will make your head explode, but here is the actual description posted for the above video by the White House...

In this video, Linda Douglass, the communications director for the White House’s Health Reform Office, addresses one example that makes it look like the President intends to "eliminate" private coverage, when the reality couldn’t be further from the truth.

Well it seems to me, reality is much CLOSER to the truth. Turns out those "scary chain emails" were correct.

The facts are stubborn things! The facts — millions ARE NOT able to keep the HEALTH CARE PLANS that THEY LIKED. The facts — millions are not able to keep the DOCTORS that THEY LIKED. The facts — millions more will receive cancellation notices once the employer mandate kicks in.

Douglass plays two clips of Obama saying what we’ve heard Obama saying two dozen times before about liking your plan, keeping your plan — liking your doctor, keeping your doctor.

Here again are the President’s own words from the clips THEY chose to PROVE to the American people that those of us in the right claiming Obama wanted to destroy their health care plans were smear pundits, crazy, or worse.

Here’s a guarantee that I’ve made. If you have insurance that you like, then you will be able to keep that insurance. If you’ve got a doctor that you like, you will be able to keep your doctor. Nobody is trying to change what works in the system. We are trying to change what doesn’t work in the system.

If you like your plan, and you like your doctor, you won’t have to do a thing. You keep your plan, you keep doctor. If your employer is providing you good health care insurance, terrific, we’re not going to mess with it.

Right after playing those two clips of Obama, Douglass closes with, “So it’s very important for you to HAVE THE FACTS…You should take a look at that, see what the President is really saying about health insurance reform and how it affects your life.

We did look at what the President was saying, Linda!!! But now Obama and his Minister of Misinformation Jay Carney are saying those EXACT SAME STATEMENTS mean something ENTIRELY DIFFERNT now.

Obama and Carney can not have it both ways. Before the bill was signed and before Obama was reelected, the White House assured us in this post and YouTube video that “keeping your plan, and keeping your doctor” meant actually keeping them. Again Obama’s own words,

Nobody is trying to change what works in the system.

If you like your plan, and you like your doctor, you won’t have to do a thing, you keep your plan, you keep doctor.….we’re not going to mess with it.

Today Obama and Carney and the rest of the liberal mouth breathers are just spinning the truth. The bill is now law. Obama was reelected. So now “keeping your plan, and keeping your doctor” means ANYTHING they want it to mean.

In response to Mr.
Phillips, I would suggest that Obama is finding the truth a little inconvenient.

Yesterday, this is what our dear leader says he said, "If you had or have one of these plans before the Affordable Care Act came into law and you really like that plan, what we said was, you could keep it…if it hasn’t changed since the law passed.

I'm sorry sir, but you were lying then...you knew millions would lose the plans they liked. Any you're lying now.

Your communications director said to look to your words. She played two clips to defend your position. Not once did you mention the caveat, "you could keep it…IF it hasn’t changed since the law passed."

MR. PRESIDENT YOU NEVER, EVER MENTIONED AN "IF."

YOU SAID WE COULD KEEP OUR PLANS AND KEEP OUR DOCTORS. PERIOD!!!!

YOU SAID PERIOD...NOT IF!!!

Mr. President, on February 25, 2010 you are on video stating the following,  "Actually, any insurance that you currently have would be grandfathered in so you could keep it. So you could decide not to get in the exchange - the better plan. I could keep my Acme Insurance, just a high deductible catastrophic plan. I would not be required to get the better one."

Sir, your lie yesterday doesn't agree with what you said in 2010. You said ANY insurance you currently have would be grandfathered in. You never mentioned an "IF." You said we could DECIDE to get in the exchange. You never mentioned a "BUT." You said I could keep my Acme insurance high deductible catastrophic plan. You never mentioned an "EXCEPT."

Now you are saying SOME plans we currently have and like won't be grandfathered in. Millions are not able to DECIDE for themselves to get in the exchange. They are being FORCED to. Now you are saying my
Acme insurance high deductible catastrophic plan was just a scam by my insurer.

Facts are stubborn things, Mr. President.

Like creating this video in 2009 to mislead and lie to the American public.
